Once Upon Our Time

My life is a story 

A peeling layer of liquid poetry

As the breadcrumbs 

fall behind me

Each time I grow

Is 

Each time you know 

There is more of me to follow 

I’ll be Gretel  

How about it Hansel?

Our words are building a foundation

For the most courageous castle 

One who has seen 

And felt 

Been on her knees 

When all she could do 

…Was crawl 

Now she stands 

With you and me 

Abducting a long forgotten glee

And it doesn’t make sense

But love seldom does 

Once upon our time 

Breadcrumbs and fairytale rust 

Take my story 

Not just to read 

…Yours, to be touched.

  5. A truly beautiful poem … when I read here, I often find myself wondering what it is that inspires your poetry. Without knowing the answer for certain, I have chosen to believe that you have a Muse who visits regularly 🙂 It’s good to see you back on the blogosphere!

  11. How gruesome!
    In an earlier French version of this tale (called The Lost Children), instead of a witch we have a devil. Now the wicked old devil is tricked by the children (in much the same way as Hansel and Gretel) but he works it out and puts together a sawhorse to put one of the children on to bleed (that isn’t an error – he really does). The children pretend not to know how to get on the sawhorse so the devil’s wife demonstrates. While she is lying down the kids slash her throat and escape

      5. I have been OK but worried about pain, issues at home, lack of work and such but I have been writing despite hand neuropathy due to either back or shoulder issues. I see my Neuro Monday

  42. It is always good to leave a bread crumb trail in case we need to take a step back in life. It helps us to recenter ourselves which is needed from time to time.

      1. We all do from time to time. I do often. At work, when I become frustrated, I go and take a quick walk around the building. It helps me to let go of whatever I am feeling and come back fresh.

        For personal situations, I enjoy the gym, running, and writing.

    If he is right – and I think he may be – then you must be a woman full of both passion and compassion, because when I read your blogposts and poems, I find them unusually talented. You really know how to listen to your heart. An art of listening that can be both painful and hurting. But that can also convey the power of love to you.

    I’m so glad I found the way to your gorgeous blog, Souldiergirl!. I can almost “feel” the beats of your so loving and lovable heart! And I can assure you that I like that “feeling” very much. You move my mind! // BB

I do pretty much blurt out my heart so to speak. I don’t know any other way. Sometimes I am not even sure if it makes sense- then I hear responses like this and it lifts me up.
