White Roses

Woke in the morning to your

White roses
Filling my room
And flooding my attention
So many petals
I can create a blanket from them
But the seconds turn to hours
When you said
“I’ll be here with you”
Falling asleep with your absence
Again
Awakened to a new red rose
A crying eye against the white
Apologetic scribbles and
A typical excuse
But, I don’t put a repeat on second chances
Tonight when you come to my door
You’ll be greeted with a pile of white petals
And one red rose
