Melancholy Placemats

The earth in her dress

Stitches becoming undone

With greedy hands

Peeling precious layers

Stacking taller

Than the once green mountain

Now brown with neglect

The summer with no winds

The fire with no end

Words typed

In black and white

Telling how much worse it is

Today

As I sit

Stirring bitter coffee

Barking frustrations

To burnt crust

And a dead table
